Retirement Plans Investment Consultant

Position is located in Warren, New Jersey


Role Description:

As a Consultant, you will lead the delivery of services to a portfolio of institutional clients and their investment committees. In addition, this client and prospect-facing role represents a great opportunity to use your consulting and client management skills to help clients and to continue to grow our business. Frequent travel is required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

To fulfill this role, the ideal candidate will be able to use his or her skills, in conjunction with PEI’s internal specialized support teams to do the following:
  • Develop and review Investment Policy Statements
  • Investment Menu Design and Asset Allocation Reviews
  • Investment manager and/or mutual fund Performance Monitoring
  • Target Date Funds Selection and Monitoring
  • Plan Costs & Plan Cost Structure
  • Plan Fee Reasonability Assessments
  • Regulatory / Legislative / DC Insights
  • Build strong relationships with and manage all aspects of consulting relationships for assigned clients
  • Maintain marketplace visibility participating in professional societies and publication or articles in appropriate trade journals
  • Contribute to business development through direct client/prospect approach and by being involved in responding to requests for proposals participating in shortlist presentations and responding to requests and leads from colleagues in other lines of business
  • Contribute to the expansion and ongoing maintenance of our client collateral

Experience:

  • 8 years of relevant experience required, including at least 3 years in a DC environment (such as at a consulting firm or a record keeper)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office suite

Client Services Support - Investment Analyst

Position is located in Warren, New Jersey


Summary:

  1. Assists the Consulting staff with delivery of all of the firm's services including reports and consulting advice to clients
  2. Analyst may work on some or all of the following plan types: 401(k), 403(b), traditional defined benefit, endowment, foundation and other institutional portfolios
  3. After sufficient work experience and knowledge, a Consultant Support Analyst may progress towards a lead consulting role

Responsibilities:

The Analyst is expected to work with all of the firm's cross-functional teams (Research, Retirement Plans Consulting Group, Sales & Marketing) in providing support to the Consulting staff.

Functions 
of the position include but are not limited to:
  • Providing day-to-day client service support to the lead consultant
  • Updating proprietary database with Client Plan Information and Investment Data
  • Ongoing investment performance reviews, which include gathering, reconciling and verifying client specific plan/portfolio data including market values, cash flows, investment and fee data. The Analyst will interact with bank custodians and retirement plan vendors
  • Working with the firm's Research Group to analyze a plan/portfolio's investment lineups, recommend changes and assemble formal due diligence reports
  • Reviewing and updating committee governance documents such as Investment Policy Statements and Committee Charters and verifying that the plan/portfolio is in compliance
  • Portfolio/Plan Fees - the Analyst is expected to work with the firm's Retirement Plans Consulting Group to analyze and verify a retirement plan's fees. In addition, the Analyst will work with other entities (both internal and external) to identify areas for recommendation to the clients such as opportunities to lower fees through different product types and share classes
  • Assisting the Consulting and Sales & Marketing staff with materials needed for sales meetings or finals presentations such as sample investment performance reports or custom analysis
  • Preparing various ad-hoc projects as needed

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Able to complete all assignments in a high quality fashion and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Be proactive by nature with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining strong client relationships and provide high quality client support.
  • Bachelor's Degree required (major in finance, accounting or economics)
  • 2-4 years of prior professional work experience
  • Basic knowledge of mutual funds and other investments as well as financial market
  • Understanding financial concepts such as asset allocation and performance calculation
  • Working knowledge of 401(k) plans, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) a plus but not required
